 GReddy Exhaust System - Introduction

    click for a larger image
I ordered a GReddy SP (Street Performance) cat-back (after the catalytic converter) exhaust system. As I drove into my subdivision, I saw a huge cardboard box by the front door of my house and knew right away what it was. I was very excited to receive my Christmas gift to myself.

I was surprised by just how huge the box was. As you can see, the box is already wider than my car, so it's a good thing I got it delivered instead of picking it up.

So what is the exhaust system anyway? The exhaust system is after the headers, which carry exhaust gasses out of the engine. The headers move the exhaust gasses to the exhaust system which consist of a series of pipes, catalytic converters (some cars may have 1, 2 or even 3 cats) and the muffler. While the headers improve flow of exhaust gasses from the engine, they can't do their job most efficiently unless the headers have an adequate exhaust system to move the gasses too.

Here you can see all the parts removed from the box.

I selected a GReddy exhaust system as they are a well known and high quality company. The original style I wanted, the Evolution was not available, but the manager at Driver's Image said that the SP model was just as good and would provide better clearance.

It comes with a nice little box with an inspection notice, warranty card, decal, 4 bolts and some metal gaskets. However, it did NOT come with instructions! But it turned out to be pretty simple.

Here you can see the muffler and the tip. The tip is much bigger than I expected, but it looks a lot bigger sitting on your living room floor than on the car.

Here's a nicer view of the can and tip.

Here's a picture of the GReddy emblem that is attached to the bottom of the can.

Here is the main pipe that runs from the catalytic converter to the rear of the car and connects to the muffler assembly.

Here is the pipe that connects the first and second catalytic convertors.
